Suzuki have played around with the GSX1300R Hayabusa's styling without losing the original's looks and character, as a result the new Suzuki Hayabusa looks really sleek.

Engine capacity had increased and so has power and torque. Handling hasn't been significantly improved, more a gentle step forward however the brakes are a miles better, and about time.

The Hayabusa officially went out of production in 2018 as it struggled to keep up with ever-stricter emissions regulations in Europe. We expect to see a new Euro5 model released in 2021.

Not much has changed on the new Suzuki Hayabusa: same wheelbase, rake and trail. However the shock and front forks have been upgraded and the swing arm strengthened. Thankfully the Hayabusa's brakes are now radial and do an excellent of stopping the big girl, without any fade even on the track. As you expect from the Suzuki Hayabusa you can't fling it around but if you ride smoothly it's very rewarding and with a few tweaks makes a decent track motorcycle.

Next up: Reliability

5 out of 5 (5/5)

The Suzuki Hayabusa has possibly the most powerful production engine on the market, alongside the Kawasaki ZZ-R1400, Suzuki are quoting 194.bhp and 115ftlb of torque for the Hayabusa. The motorcycle isn't restricted in the lower gears its full power all the way to the 186mph speed limiter.

Next up: Value

5 out of 5 (5/5)

Cosmetically the Suzuki Hayabusa has been tweaked, especially the back end, and there's a noticeable difference in the quality of finish. I like the new look, the quality of finish is top shelf, paint is deep, much improved over the original Hayabusa. Being a Hayabusa reliability is unquestionable.

Next up: Equipment

£9000 for arguably the fastest production motorcycle on the planet, that will be enough to see the new Suzuki Haybusa top the sales charts. Quality of finish has vastly improved; it looks sleeker, but still retains that essential Suzuki Hayabusa character. Find a Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa for sale.

Equipment

4 out of 5 (4/5)

Fully adjustable suspension front and rear comes as standard on the new Hayabusa and like every new big Suzuki motorcycle there's a three-way power switch limiting power. It's not just a gimmick you really notice the difference between the power modes, making the Hayabusa less of an animal than before.

4 out of 5 It's Reputation is Well Earned

27 March 2021 by Paul C

Version: ABS

Year: 2015

Annual servicing cost: £350

Although it has the reputation of just being good for straightline speed it is SOOOOOOOOO Much more. Yes it will send you from A to Z at ballistic speed but it will also burble around town and for those wanting to thread it though a few B road bends it will do that too. Yes there are some downsides such as killing your wrists as standard but easily sorted with a good set of bar risers. Oh yeah another downside is they are a favourite target for thieves so copious amount of security is recommended.

Ride quality & brakes 5 out of 5

To be honest, once Bar risers are fitted, the ride is all day long comfortable. It copes with town riding with a surprisingly tight turning circle. Of course though it is really at home on fast flowing A roads

Engine 5 out of 5

This really needs to be scored as 100 out of 10. This engine is perfection. Power delivery is ultra smooth from the bottom to the top of the rev range.

Reliability & build quality 4 out of 5

Bullitproof Engine and, if well cared for, excellent build quality continuing to look pristeen for years and Years

Value vs rivals 5 out of 5

Sevicing is fairly standard although consumables like brakes and tyres do take a hit. Also standard brake discs tend to warp probably due to needed to constantly bring its rather hefty bulk back down to legal speeds from the possibe rather too often ballistic speeds it tends to find itself in.

Equipment 3 out of 5

OK. it does not come with much as standard apart from a selection of 3 power modes. Totally pointless really. Why would you buy a Hayabusa and then throttle it by restricting the power???? It also come with ABS. Best boots are Michelins road pilots for all round use.

5 out of 5 King of wow factor

Year: 2016

Awesome power, comfortable and a feel good factor each time I ride it.

Ride quality & brakes 5 out of 5

Easily ride for 3 hours on a motorway before break is needed.

Engine 5 out of 5

Slick gear changing and super powerful.

Reliability & build quality 4 out of 5

A bit of corrosion and paint flaking away especially around the swing arm and disc brakes.

Value vs rivals 4 out of 5

Everything is expensive, tyres chain and brake pads are not cheap and I had an mot engine service double tyre change and it came to just over £1000.

Equipment 4 out of 5

Ugly exhausts, changed for titanium yoshis that are on the Z model.

Buying experience: Dealer bought, paid the RRP but got a good trade in on my Gen 1 Busa.

5 out of 5 Why would I want anything else?

05 December 2020 by Simon Livingstone

Version: The white one with black bits :D

Year: 2018

Annual servicing cost: £175

I had one of the original Hayabusas many years ago then kids came along so, after five years of trouble free motorcycling, I sold it. Following a twelve year break in motorcycling, I heard Suzuki were going to stop bring them into the UK and having seen the latest version in white and black absolutely fell in love with it. Found a dealer in Scotland (I am in Kent) doing a great deal on pcp and ordered it. It's like the old model but just so much more. I've bought it out of the pcp deal as I really intend on keeping it forever!

Ride quality & brakes 5 out of 5

I'm a bit lardy so bike fits me perfectly; it's comfortable, economical, quick but obviously also a bit lardy so not as flickablable as a much lighter bike. Do a tank before needing to stretch my legs (so 2 - 3 hours - leathers a bit tight at back of knees :D)

Engine 5 out of 5

What, you have to ask what I like about the Hayabusa power unit? Ride one, you'll see! Use the revs or use the torque - smooth as silk at 30 in 6th or stick it in 1st and you can lose your licence.

Reliability & build quality 5 out of 5

Still mint.

Value vs rivals 5 out of 5

I was going to be concerned about tyre wear (my last Hayabusa could go through Battleaxes in under 1000 miles) so was pleasantly surprised when I got over 3500 out of them. It will always be Suzuki dealer maintained so slightly more than non franchised. I think the bike was cracking value at £10,500

Equipment 5 out of 5

It's a bit old fashioned - it has ABS and rider modes (which I've never used). I can't think why I would need sat nav, usb ports, traction control, wheelie control, blue tooth, dozens of menus on a tft screen - start it and ride it. I'm engaging with a motorcycle and not a computer game.

Buying experience: Paid £10,500 through Cupar Motorcycles in er, Cupar, Scotland. They were brilliant. £3,000 deposit, £58/month pcp and just paid off the balance. Came with free delivery, tank of fuel etc.

4 out of 5 EXCEPTIONAL OLD SCHOOL MACHINE THAT'S SURPRISINGLY MODERN

30 July 2020 by Dan

Version: GENERATION 2 ABS

Year: 2019

Even 20 years after its introduction, bike feels amazingly modern. Fast, stable, fun and secure even at 150-plus. Surprisingly flickable - but I've only ridden my bike (bought new) with full Akro exhaust installed at dealer. Not sure how would be with stock cans. It's actually a sports bike! Worst feature - some handlebar buzz, even with aftermarket grips. I would recommend any serious motorcyclist to give the Busa a try. Have no issue with the brakes.

Ride quality & brakes 4 out of 5

I find this bike very comfortable. But I've installed bar risers, a custom one-inch shaved lowered seat, bigger windscreen and 2-inch lowered footpegs. Not a lot of pressure on wrist - and now has excellent riding position that's comfortable for hundreds of miles. Suspension soaks up bumps and bike is never unsettled. Brakes are very good. No complaints. Not crazy about stock rubber, but will switch to Pirelli when rear wears out. Will also go to carbon fiber rims, which should make it a scalpel.

Engine 5 out of 5

Beast that obeys your slightest command, without ever giving you guff. Simply amazing.

Reliability & build quality 5 out of 5

While not Honda, Ducati or Harley quality on fit and finish, is very exceptional, especially at this price point. Too new to document any failures or comment on long-term reliability.

Value vs rivals 3 out of 5

With the power commander and aftermarket tins, this critter does suck gas. But I'm very heavy-handed on this bike (addictive power). More so than my other motorcycles. But I am surprised at the frequent need to fill up.

Equipment 5 out of 5

Exceptional for its era and competitive even today. Hate the OEM tires as previously noted.

5 out of 5 Old school awesome tool

21 April 2018 by Rob

Year: 2007

Had a gen1 years ago, and it was the only bike i ever regretted selling. All the new stuff leaves me cold, so have gone back to this. an absolute classic, and once a small amount is spent on brakes and suspension, its all the bike I need. The gen2 is a better bike but will never be a classic like this model. One of the all time greats in my humble opinion.

Ride quality & brakes 3 out of 5

£400 spent on suspension set up, at somewhere like MCT transforms it. The original 6 pot calipers are fine if serviced properly, with good pads and braided lines. More gains can be had changing firstly the master cylinder, then calipers if necessary.

Engine 5 out of 5

Not REALLY fast by todays' standards, if we're honest. But for real world riding it's sublime. Power in abundance everywhere. I still believe this is a masterpiece in the engine department. A proper gutsy old school in-line 4.

Fitted Brembo and braided lines, could really do with Brembo master cylinder I fitted Ohlins rear TTX36 rear shock to make a magic carpet ride. and improved handling, obviously better than stock I also fitted carbon wheels, as originals were corroded due to 7 years of all season riding, makes the big bike handle like a thou, steers quick with MCT tuned suspension got great drive out of corners - std busa's feel like a barge now

So much more than just a straight-line rocket ship. Having admired them at the NEC show for the last ten years, finally took a 'Busa for a test ride expecting to be disappointed. I had no choice but to go out and buy one.

Ride quality & brakes 5 out of 5

Ride quality is excellent, mid-corner stability superb and braking more than good enough for road riding with plenty of feedback at the lever. Handling is neutral and she goes wherever you look without thinking. Although short distance between seat and foot pegs, riding position surprisingly comfortable and even at 6'4", I've ridden for a couple of hours at a stretch without problems. Commutes equally as well and very mild mannered around town. 3 power modes useful for dialling down the power when riding in the wet or on frosty mornings.

Engine 5 out of 5

More power than I can ever use, but great to have it in reserve nevertheless! The mid range power is awesome, so it's easy to ride in any situation. Gearbox is smooth and positive and slipper clutch makes downshifting easy, even under heavy deceleration. Weather protection is also excellent despite what appears to be a very low front screen, courtesy of all the wind-tunnel R&D I suspect. Averaged over 46 mpg so far this past year, and I don't spare the horses.

Reliability & build quality 5 out of 5

Only owned this one for a year and 4,000 miles so far, but the bike is faultless. Rear tyre just about done now, but Battlax BT015 probably quite soft so a decent sport touring tyre should last much longer. Finish is excellent and the bike has that 'flagship' quality feel that belies the price I paid.

Value vs rivals 5 out of 5

No more expensive than any average litre bike. Came with balance of nearly 3 years Suzuki warranty which adds value and peace-of-mind.

Equipment 5 out of 5

Very light clutch operation, despite such a big motor. Throttle operation is also a dream with zero lag and great control. Stability and handling is sublime and a real surprise considering the bike's size.

Buying experience: Bought from main dealer as a pre-reg' demonstrator with 70 miles only in as-new condition and nearly 3 years manufacturer warranty. Paid £9,100 in December 2016 with new Givi rear rack, Givi top plate and R&G engine case slider fitted. Absolute bargain!

Arriving back I was so impressed I had to have it. They questioned my ugly comments. I said its okay `cos I cannot see it when I am riding it. Getting used to its looks but it's still not my taste but its looks are over ridden by it's power/handling/comfort to cover big distance quick.

Version: Yoshimura Z Limited edition.

Year: 2015

When I walk into the garage, rain bouncing off the roof, I love the fact that I can enjoy the flow and shape of the air dissecting machine before me. It's well known that the performance and top speed is part of an elite club of road bikes, but I am most taken by its 'road manners' in and around town as the bike is comfortable and quite nimble to ride in all situations which for a big bike surprised me. Once out of town I have the whole of Wales to enjoy on a bike that attracts as much attention as the view.

Ride quality & brakes 5 out of 5

The chassis is designed for stability at high speed, but this does not mean it can't turn through corners. It's always been stable and balanced even absorbing pot holes without too much complaint. Haven't needed the full emergency stop power of the Brembos thankfully but with every squeeze you get more confident of what they can do.

Engine 5 out of 5

Even without traction the control element the engine gives you exactly what you ask it to deliver to the rear wheel in a reliable and consistent manner. Every gear has an almost bottomless well of torque available allowing smooth decisive overtaking in all gears. The Yoshimura exhaust is attention grabbing and traffic carving when you want it to be, but a comforting murmur when your mile crunching or cruising.

Reliability & build quality 5 out of 5

Build quality is the usual Suzuki high standard.

Value vs rivals 5 out of 5

Equipment 4 out of 5

In its standard form the bike has, Brembo brakes, ABS, Traction control and a comfortable seat all giving a comfortable uncomplicated ride. The only feature I would add - mainly as i ride in the UK - is an outside air temperature gauge but Suzuki don't fit one.

4 out of 5 A dream big bike sport or touring

01 July 2015 by Mike Thompson

Year: 2007

Annual servicing cost: £200

Best bike iv owned and iv owned a few over 20 years best thing about the Hayabusa is the ride quality by that I mean overall long term ride quality it handles superbly giving confidence to a rider the seat bars position is easy for sporty or long touring rides out. The engine is sublimely effortless or frighteningly powerful depend on your wrist? torque is effortless go into top gear and leave it there 30mph no need to change gear as for the (illegal lose licence) top speed on a track day out I hit 160mph far to quickly and easily and it was still pulling strong, on a public road overtaking is effortless 3 secs and its done that's safety imo Regards the fuel economy if im cruising 70 or below I easily get 55 mpg no problem heft the throttle wide open and its 30mpg New rear every 2 years at 10k miles (that throttle wrist again) front 3 years Or? new tyre every 1500 miles if thrash the bike all the time (like a bored magazine reporter The finish on the frame is good although the alloy parts will corrode if used in winter, I don't have a car for work the 2009 onwards bikes I just don't like the look of them not sexy looking as the older or classic Hayabusa which looks timeless even standing still.

Version: 2008 registered first generation K& bike

Year: 2008

This is by far the easiest bike to ride that I've owned. Moved to this from a CBR as wanted something to do more touring on with more space to fit my frame (6'3''). Mine came with 38mm handlebar risers which make a massive difference in terms of comfort and mirror extenders (maybe not pretty but I can see everything behind me without moving my head or elbows). Great power and the weight makes it feel very planted in the bends - quite confidence inspiring. Overtakes are despatched very quickly and safelt and put a smile on my face every time I ride. Taking it to Germany this summer - can't wait. Definitely not a first bike but stepping up from 120+ bhp to this was no a problem at all. Would recommend without hesitation.

Ride quality & brakes 5 out of 5

I love how the weight of the bike makes it feel so planted in the bends. Ready for a quick stretch when the tank needs filling up but the risers make it very comfortable and certainly no aches or pains like the CBR gave me. Just put 500 miles on it over this last wekend with no grumbles whatsoever. Not had an issue with the brakes either.

Engine 5 out of 5

Yes, it's powerful and there is always some in reserve if you need it but you don't need to ride it like a hooligan. The engine is silky smooth in all gears making a ride out a very pleasurable experience.

Reliability & build quality 5 out of 5

7 years old with no issues but it has been well looked after and not taken out in the rain - until I got my hands on it. I've owned Suzukis before though - keep an old towel handy to dry it off quickly when you get back in and look after the chain, otherwise all good.

Value vs rivals 4 out of 5

Marked down only as less mpg than ideal but nothing unexpected. If you want a longer tank range don't buy a 1300cc bike :)

Equipment 4 out of 5

Marked down as manual choke (on a 2008 registered bike? Come on Suzuki, catch up. My 2002 CBR had an automatic choke for crying out loud). Comes with centre stand which is really useful for cleaning / maintenance. Definitely go for handblebar risers for comfort and mirror extenders really useful if you can tolerate the looks.

Buying experience: Bought from a dealer but great price compared to private deals and got a good deal on my part exchange. No real opinion either way - I've bought from dealers and privately over the years with no problems. Just make sure you get a decent warranty from a dealer (and spend a weekend riding hard to see if there are any niggles) or take someone with you who knows their stuff if buying privately.

Decided last year to treat myself to a Yellow LE 13' model. Brembo and ABS just finishes it off nicely along with Yoshi cans. The ABS isn't too much in the way and its still my fav means of transport...I have more confidence to use its abilities than almost any other bike I've owned. Much more practical than any sports bike. I can't believe people are put off by the mad rep these developed 15 years ago and still think these are nuts...its got one of the most friendly throttles around and simply gives what you ask of it. Roll on the Gen3....i live in hope.

23 September 2012 by

right ill start with the fact ive owned my hayabusa for four years and its been faultless. I do all the servicing myself and always have from tyres to valve clearances.(it is easy to look after) ive just upgraded the brakes to brembos and that really makes a massive difference. I have HEL braided brake pipes back and front which offer a more responsive feel over the OEM ones. I do oil changes every 2000 miles and oil and oil filter every 4000 miles, the air filter is a K&N. Spark plugs are done every 6000 miles and valves every 14500 miles, Ive now done 30000 miles and its still as tight as it was the day i picked it up. if you look after the chain and sprockets and they will look after you mine are still original and thats fantastic for this bike. I have very little service history for it but i dont intend on selling it(not yet at least). the new BMW and ZZR etc may be faster but once youve ridden this you wont be disappointed, ive done many trips to germany france and northern scotland and its very comfortable fully loaded with luggage that you wouldnt even now was there. also ive never have this problem with tyres lasting only 800 miles ive had 5/6000 miles from the rears. all in all a great bike.

Following on from my 1st review of the Gen2 which didn't inspire me enough to buy one..I went for a ZZR1400...which as good as it is has proved not to have any of the character of a Busa. Yeah the ZZR is super fast but also hard work to enjoy on twisty A or B roads where its low rpm lack of grunt is its fall down and needs its suspension seriously tweaked for 2 up use. Now in the process of buying an 08' Busa which I test rode for 2 days and couldn't have enjoyed myself more on 2 wheels...absence does indeed make the heart grow stronger. Everything about the bike just ticks all my boxes straight from the box vs its rivals...cost me £2k to realise that.

5 out of 5 An Awesome Bike..

31 August 2011 by r1ben

Now, having owned and ridden everything from R1s, ZX10r, Fireblades, GSXR1000s etc I thought I would get something a bit more comfortable..I went for a 2008 Hayabusa. I was expecting it to be fast and it certainly is. What surprised me was the ease at which it goes extremely fast.. a 1k sports bike needs to be worked to a certain extent to get a serious pace on, however the Busa goes from any revs, any gear like a sports bike does towards the top end. This makes for very swift progress but Ive found you tend to be going a lot quicker at any given situation on the Busa.. rolling out of 60mph bends in 6th, wind it on and it whips upto 120mph in the time its taken to knock a race rep down 3 gears.. this is both has its advantages and disadvantages..it never feels like you are working it or pushing it but still acheiving licence losing speeds in total composure. I have found that to ge the same buzz as a race rep you need to be achieving 30mph more than a sports bike..Not a bike for those with little sef restraint. Its a fantastic bike for euro voyages, a recent trip to Innsbruck was dealt with painlessly and nothing can live with it on the german autobahns and there are many E63 AMGs, M5s, Porsches that have a go! Handling and braking are spot on for the road and you can pretty much ride it like a race rep, a BSB rider might be faster on a superbike but to an average intermediate track day rider on the road its everything you could want, its only on the track it feels a bit heavy in the slower corners. Its really comfy for my 6'3 frame, returns nearly 50mpg at 100mph on the motorway and is a doddle to pootle around on.. You really wont go far wrong with a gen 2 Busa for all round road use. A near perfect bike for those with any self restraint. Highly recommended

5 out of 5 hayabusa gen2

08 July 2011 by mark3evo

I owned a gen1 for 20 months and covered 28,000 miles, loved it, but with 40,000 miles on clock, opted for a great pre-vat and 2% deal. After 9 months and 8,000 miles later, my views are this is a better bike. More midrange and top end, improved handling and sharper brakes. This is the only bike i want. just love it!

3 out of 5 Great bike but

30 May 2011 by tman39a

Newer isnt always better...had a Gen 1 for over 4 years and simply couldn't see the point in buying a Gen2...ok its got more power and better brakes but thats all for me...mode switch is pointless, back end is hideous and to be honest it feels old. Bought a ZZR1400 instead and I now understand why people do serious touring on them...the Busa has the better engine low down but feels heavy and clumsy by comparison to the Zed. If you want a bike fast bike the Busa is still hard to beat so long as you've never owned one....better value than a GSXR

If you like this kind of bike (lets face it, lots of people don't and want to ban it), the Hayabusa is without equal. I would call it SERENE at any speed between 0-300kph. Can't ask for more except a full Akrapovic system as standard and dinner with Halle Berry as part of the delivery. Astonishing, Breath-takingly Beautiful and extremely SEXY (like Halle).

I'm still loving this bike but what with the paint flaking off the swingarm and really bad after care from a west london branch of suzuki, which I not going to use again at all.No more complaints apart from the ridiculous price of the services, well I suppose your to expect that with this bike. Rant over (Still a great bike and do not wish for anything else).

I have had my busa for 12 months now and love it, Its an absolutly incredible bike. I have a Yosh R55 full system on it which puts the Bhp upto 198 bhp according to Trax dyno services, he thinks that the bike would exceed 200mph easily without the ristriction. Ive had it flat out twice and it gets there with so little effort and you can tell it still wants to go more, what an engine wow :)

5 out of 5 Bill's 2008 Busa

31 January 2009 by 65hemi

I have 2100 miles on my 2008 Busa, and love it. It is extremely smooth, with awesome power and acceleration. The handling is excellent for a bike of this size, definitely better than I expected. I replaced the stock exhaust with a full Yoshi system and power commander, saving 35 pounds, and vastly improving the sound, while adding almost 20 horsepower at the rear wheel. If you ride one, you will buy one. That's what happened to me.

13 January 2009 by reub

I too have just traded in my GSXR1000 K8 for a new Black & Orange Busa (10th Jan 09); Not had change to ride it yet but I loved my previous K6 Busa which I did 9k on through the summer so I'm really looking forward to the new one. The GSXR1000 was a great bike but it made my wrist hurt and fingers go numb so back to the Busa it is. I have to agree with "carl busa" it does look the dogs conkers in black & orange! :)

5 out of 5 Brilliant Busa

12 August 2008 by busa65

Had my Busa for nearly a month now and I must say just how impressed I am.I did previously own a Honda Deauville and was initially a bit anxious about making the transition to such a powerful bike but after having a successful all day test ride from my local dealer my mind was made up.The new Busa is such great all round bike.Obviously the power speaks for itself but if you don't want to be a speed merchant,it's still such a rewarding bike to ride.It sticks to the road like glue and is very confidence inspiring. My only quibble is the Busas' side stand. It doesn't seem to be able to cope with the bikes' weight and have had a scary moment with said item but fortunately with no damage.
